About Us

「町屋日本語教室」で、日曜日に、日本語を勉強しましょう。

Let's study Japanese on Sundays at "Machiya Japanese Class".

外国人も日本人も学ぶあうボランティアグループです。

This is a volunteer group where both foreigners and Japanese learn from each other.

日本語学習を通して、国際交流、社会勉強、日本を知るための旅行・遊び、生活相談、いろいろな活動をしています。

We are doing various activities through learning Japanese. (International exchange, social study, travel and play to learn about Japan, life consultation)

シスター小林（小林ときわ）が教室を始めました。

Sister Kobayashi (Tokiwa Kobayashi) started a classroom.

１９８０年代後半、彼女の教会にたくさんのフィリピン女性が訪れました。

In the late 1980s, many Filipino women visited her church.

彼女たちは「日本語が勉強できるところはないか」とシスター小林に尋ねました。
They asked Sister Kobayashi if there was a place where they could study Japanese.

シスター小林は自分の家の部屋で教室を始めました。
Sister Kobayashi started a classroom in her room.

1991年1月20日が、教室の最初の日です。
January 20, 1991 is the first day of the classroom.

シスター小林は、わたしたち町屋日本語教室の仲間の誇りです。

Sister Kobayashi is the pride of all of us at Machiya Japanese Class.

活動の概要 (summary)

2011年7月から毎年１回、20人程度で岩手県陸前高田市を訪れて活動を行いました。

Since July 2011, about 20 people have visited Rikuzentakata City in Iwate Prefecture once a year for activities.

活動内容 (content)

町屋日本語教室のスタッフと教室に訪れる外国人と協力し、いろいろな国の料理を作り提供するお食事会を開催しました。

In cooperation with the classroom staff and foreigners, we prepared and served dishes from various countries.

終了の経緯 (How it ended)

仮設住宅に住んでいる人の減少および活動場所の閉鎖に伴い、７回目（2017年）の活動をもって終了しました。

Due to the decrease in the number of people living in temporary housing and the closure of the activity site, the 7th activity (2017) ended.
